Our services
Adoption & care experience
Identity, belonging and relationships
We provide expertise in adoption and care experience. Adoption and experiences of being in care can affect people in many different ways. For some, questions about identity, belonging, attachment, family and relationships may remain throughout adulthood. For others, these issues may become more prominent at particular points in life or when navigating changes in relationships, family or identity.
Therapy can offer a confidential and supportive space to make sense of these experiences and explore how they may continue to influence your life today.
Some of our therapists have specialist experience in adoption, care experience and transracial adoption and they understand the particular complexities that can arise when adoption intersects with race, culture, identity, belonging and relationships.
Specialist understanding
We have experience of working with :
- Adult adoptees
- Birth parents and birth family members
- Foster and adoptive parents
- People exploring questions around identity, race and belonging
- Individuals experiencing difficulties in relationships or attachment connected to earlier experiences
Therapy may provide an opportunity to explore experiences of loss, separation, identity, attachment and family relationships, as well as the ways these experiences can shape relationships and emotional wellbeing in the present.
We offer a space to explore these experiences sensitively but only specifically in relation to psychosexual and relationship therapy.
There is no expectation that you should feel a particular way about adoption, care or your family.
Our approach recognises the importance of specialist knowledge while keeping your individual story at the centre of the work.
If you would like to explore whether psychosexual or relationship therapy could support you, please get in touch to discuss your needs and the options available.
